Mudbound by Hillary Jordan

Two families are caught up in the blind hatred of a small Southern town. Prejudice rears it's ugly head in subtle and ruthless ways. This is the saga of the McAllan family who tries to survive on a remote ramshackle farm and the Jacksons, their black sharecroppers. When the two sons return from World War II to work the land, the unlikely friendship between these brothers-in-arms--one black, one white--arouses passions in their neighbors and families. This is a very intense novel that deals with love, hate and prejudice

Hunger Games, the movie

Having read this book and it's two sequels, I am eager to see the movie. Hoping to go soon! I have heard good things about it!! From both those who have not read the book and those who have!!

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

This is the biography of the woman whose cancer cells created the Hela line of DNA used for testing. It was created in the 1940s. Henrietta's family had no idea that her cells were taken for the purpose of research. Interesting real story of significant research.

Matched by Ally Condie

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. This is a YA Distopian Trilogy. In this first novel, Cassia is Matched with her best friend, Xander. She is informed via a video that flashes a picture of another young man, Ky, for just a few seconds, which causes doubts and secrets. Not just for this Match, but for all aspects of her life.

The Help, the movie!

Having read the book, I just HAD to see the movie! And it didn't disappoint! The movie was excellent! The characters were spot on, from Abilene to Mae Mobley. Ron Howard's daughter was Hilly. She nailed this part!! Might have to go see it again....

Harry Potter 7 part 2

So now I have seen all the Harry Potter movies. This last one was very dark and intense. The most surprising character in this movie was Neville Longbottom! He really grew up! And he was brave!

I love the special effects in all the movies, but they were exceptional in this one! The fire, the giants, the death eaters, and especially the aging of the main characters. Very well done!

I am amazed at Snape's attitude and how his attitude shaped his actions all along. I guess a lost love can influence your entire life!

Now Potter mania is over and the next fad will be coming around soon. Wonder what it will be......
